Why should you never ask your friends to install Linux?

Why should you never ask your friends to install Linux?

A side effect of the Indian Education System

I've done this mistake three times and regretted it every time. Just a personal experience though.

As a college student majoring in Information technology, I came to know about Linux OS (Operating System). I got so impressed that I used to change OS almost every 6 months. I've tried Kali, Ubuntu, Mint, Zorin, Elementary, Parrot, Solus, and maybe a few others. Btw, I used Kali and Mint the most.

So here are the stories, how I have put myself in trouble ๐Ÿ˜‚

Story 1

During college, a very good friend of mine saw me using Linux and I told him why I love it. He wanted to try. So he gave me his laptop and I installed Ubuntu on it.

After just two-three days I started to get calls about this and that not working and he wants me to solve these errors. Eventually, I had to install windows back on his laptop.

Story 2

I was doing training in Hyderabad. Met a few friends. A friend wanted to try Linux as they saw me using it without any problems. So I again installed Linux (Mint) on his laptop. And we were in the same PG so if there were any issues I used to solve them. He seemed to really love it because on his Windows laptop he couldn't do video editing. But on Linux (Kdenlive) he was able to do it and uploaded a few videos on YouTube as well. Here is the pic I shared in our WhatsApp group.

But as soon as he went back home after the training, I started to get calls again about some errors and all. And again willing me to solve those. Eventually, he bought a new laptop as this was a very old one.

Story 3

During the same training program, another very good friend wanted to install Linux. I installed Ubuntu on it. Don't have any proof of it. As usual, it was going well as I was there for about 3 months. And again when we joined the company we were in the same PG in Bangalore. But now I'm not in that organization anymore. And again I started to get calls and WhatsApp messages asking to solve errors.

A few days ago, I had to guide this 3rd friend to install windows on his laptop. I had to do it over a voice call. It went smoothly ๐Ÿ‘. Finally, I'm done with all of them ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Conclusion:

In a typical Indian education system, you can become a computer engineer in 4 years with a good grade, but you can't even get to learn to solve errors by googling.

Story 4

Edit: Oops, made the same mistake again ๐Ÿคฃ I made a YouTube video about how to install Linux mint. Then a friend called me and I helped him install Mint ๐Ÿ˜‚

Here's the video btw:
